Bergen Opera Choir was established in 1976 as a season based
choir which participated in operas in Bergen. The necessity for a
permanent activity resulted in the debut concert autumn 1981, with
Brahm`s "Liebeslieder Waltzer" and Gade`s "Elverskud", and this
indicated the start of a full year activity with a large number of
participations in operas, symphony and church
music.
The choir has 60
members. New members are recruited by audition and are selected on
basis of voice quality and musical flexibility. Anne Randine Øverby
has been the artistic manager since the choir was established in
1981.
Bergen Opera Choir
has a broad church music and symphonic repertoire in co-operation
with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Bergen International Festival
and by them selves. This includes works by Brahms, Beethoven, Mahler
and Berlioz.

The choir has participated in a
large number of opera performances produced by Opera Bergen
and West Norwegian Opera. A嵐, Macbeth, Turandot, La Boheme,
Der fliegende Holl䮤er are some of the operas the choir has
participated in. To show the width in their repertoire it
would be fair to mention their participation in "Chess",
Gershwin?s "Porgy and Bess" and Tippet's "A child
of our time".
Through different concert- and
operaparticipations Bergen Opera Choir has had the honour of
being conducted by Rafael Fr?de Burgos, Aldo Ceccato, Per
Dreier and Carlo Felice Cillario.
Norway,
Scandinavian countries, Praha, Vienna, Budapest and Beijing
are some of the places Bergen Opera Choir has toured, and the
choir has visited Eritrea, Egypt and Israel participating in
opera performances. Bergen Opera Choir recruits soloists for
concerts, musicals and smaller parts in
opera. | |
